Stickley Museum to Host Opening Reception
Thursday night's event kicks off spring season.
The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms is set to open for the season with a Spring Members’ Reception Thursday night at 7 p.m.
The compound, set on 30 acres of landscaped terrain, was once the home of famed American designer Gustav Stickley. Now, the preserved National Historic Landmark, which is an early 20th century country log home, serves as a museum for Stickley’s most original work.
Stickley was a main figure in the American Arts and Crafts movement, which highlighted a return to hand crafted furniture, metalwork and textiles. He also published a magazine for 15 years, The Craftsman, which presented many political and lifestyle ideals associated with the movement in addition to articles on home and life improvement.

The annual reception will highlight a presentation by David Lowden, “Gustav Stickley’s Debt to England: The Influences of Morris, Ruskin, Ashbee, Voysey and Baillie Scott.” A special unveiling of a handmade, scale model of the Log House will be presented by Southland Log Homes. Light refreshments will be served during the night, which is free to members, $12 for tickets.
