Students from both of Parsippany's high schools are meeting at Wednesday for the fifth annual . The goal of the event, say organizers, is to show young people that they can lead their schools in positive directions.
The young people set to attend the conference come from all high school grade levels and were recommended as student leaders for the conference by teachers, coaches and staff.
The gathering comes right before the start of the second school year governed by the state Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights. The so far , imposed a bevy of Department of Education rules and regulations onto public schools in hopes of reducing acts of bullying and boosting tolerance. Superintendent of Schools LeRoy Seitz said that despite the January ruling, Parsippany schools will continue to promote tolerance education.
The workshop will also promote student community service and character education.
District officials such as Dr. Seitz are expected to speak at the event, as well as , a comic and motivational speaker who will speak on the topic of "Resilience: The Power to Rise Above.”
School staffers work at the workshop on a volunteer basis.
The event will take place Wednesday from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
