END FALSE NARRATIVES IN POLITICS THAT SUBVERT LAND & COMMUNITY.
Support Herbig, Kaminski, Hernandez for Council...Let's not be Trumped on a local level.
The coming Council election in the so-called off cycle is notorious for low voter turnout. We cannot allow this to happen this coming November. The immediate past should not be forgotten, specifically the regime of Inglesino’s virtual takeover under the former Barberio Administration. During this time period affordable housing was used as a fear tactic to promote unneeded developments. The majority republican council of the time performed no due diligence in these matters, costing Parsippany taxpayers unnecessary and scandalous expense, while our own Township attorney betrayed the community by not supporting good land use laws and other policies allowing corporate developers to dominate and subvert our master plan.
The greatest of all these scandals and false narratives was the waterview betrayal of the overwhelming grassroots movement that brought the Council of 2013 the No Rezone decision and promise of open space. Certain republican council members of the time also ran for office in support of the waterview No Rezone, only to change sides quickly after being elected as willing subjects of Inglesino’s favoring of developer’s interest over that of the community he was entrusted with as its paid attorney.
It should not be forgotten that Councilman dePierro was opposed to the No rezone the whole time, and the then newly elected Councilwoman Gragnani also promoted its demise; “something has to be done with that land” as she expressed it, conveniently forgetting, and not honoring the former councils No rezone, and the massive grassroots accomplishment to save an environmentally sensitive landscape and the character of the Intervale neighborhood and overall beauty of Parsippany itself.

The truth somehow missed was, what is to be done with all the already developed and idle corporate land. That was the land something needed to be done with and especially with the coming affordable housing, no new land development was required for more of what was not actually needed.
The one big lie and false narrative used during the whole shameful waterview episode to build another mall (in a landscape of malls some idle) was; 'build the mall or it will be taken for affordable housing' this false narrative was used as an excuse by republicans to favor RD developer over the grassroots opposition. The fact was and is COAH type housing does not take such steep-sloped and sensitive lands, and especially if plans for its purchase as open space has been decided. Inglesino even took Parsippany out of Highlands Conformance in 2014, to assure all his i's are dotted and t's crossed. RD developer was allowed a frivolous lawsuit and dismissed without prejudice allowing them to accomplish the crime. The republican council was told they would be subject to punishment if anything being said in closed session were brought to light.

The story has many more aspects, but the most telling was not one member of the republican council performed any due diligence or blew the whistle. Political leaders with no sense of environmental/ecological awareness should not be elected. No economy can sustain endless growth, and no economy can exist without ecosystems services. Inglesino: "sometimes the environment has just got to get out of the way"
Land is a resource not a commodity It is the heritage of all mankind, land cannot be produced by humankind to be sold. It's true character must be first recognized for its ecosystem services before any thoughts of its proper development. Nature cannot defend itself that is our human calling; loss of biodiversity is catching up with all of us, and may be an omen of disaster.
We cannot afford obsolete reactions any longer in Parsippany or anywhere. We need an economy that is in harmony with the earth’s finite resources. If money remains the only value or source of wealth we are surely doomed.
This is what the past republican dominated administration was against in their short term money centric narrative.
This is the checks & balances required.
Balancing Protection of Natural Resources and Built Environments. In order to protect natural resources and the built environment, it is necessary to address conditions and circumstances which are currently problematic, like watersheds, where existing water use exceeds sustainable supply, and new growth and development has occurred in ways not consistent with the protection of environmentally sensitive areas or local community character.
This goal of the Highlands Water Protection and Land Use Act was brushed aside, Mayor Soriano has restored it, we need a united Council with a sense of place, not political obstruction for private interest over the common good.
