Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills Fourth Annual Spelling Bee

On Friday January 11, the Woman’s Club of Parsippany Troy Hills (WCPTH) held its Fourth Annual Spelling Bee. Twenty-five students were selected from area Fifth Grade Elementary Schools to participate in the Spelling Bee, which was held at Parsippany Hills High School (PHHS). Over 100 parents and family members watched the students. Judging the event were; Michael DiSanto, Principal of Parsippany Hills High School. William Westhoven, reporter at Gannett NJ Daily Record and Melissa Okerblom, Parsippany Library Head of Children’s Services. Mary Ann Coyne, WCPTH club member and chairman of the Fourth Annual Spelling Bee,was the Moderator and club member Marianne Burke was the Pronouncer. After 25exciting rounds the 1stPlace winner was Sahaj Bhandari from Northvale Elementary School. 2nd Place winner was Genevieve Owusu-Ansah from Rockaway Meadow Elementary School and Sanjana Sri Veggalam from Mount Tabor Elementary School was 3rdplace winner. The winners are invited to participate in the New Jersey State Federated Women’s Club (NJSFWC) Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday,February 2nd in Rockaway. The Regional winners will then be invited to the State Championship at the New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs of GFWC (NJSFWC) Headquarters on Saturday, March 2ndin New Brunswick.

The Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills is a member of NJSFWC, which is the largest volunteer women's service organization in the state, providing opportunities for education, leadership training, and community service. The next General Meeting, which is open to area women, will be held on Monday, January 28 at 7:00 pm at Lake Parsippany Rescue & Recovery, 100 Centerton Dr., Parsippany.
