• Lawsuit says 3 uncovered New Jersey reservoirs left 800,000 drinking water customers at risk (thecooldown.com subscription) — Passaic residents’ drinking water is at the center of a new state and federal lawsuit accusing the Passaic Valley Water Commission of leaving three treated-water reservoirs uncovered and vulnerable to contamination since at least 2009. If the government wins, the commission could be forced into costly upgrades or new treatment, with potential health protections and penalties aimed at safeguarding nearly 800,000 North Jersey customers.
   

• Passaic County doesn't have any more firefighting foam as costs rise for PFAS-free replacement (news12.com) — Passaic’s fire department and 15 other Passaic County chiefs have no firefighting foam after turning in PFAS-containing stock, leaving them without a key tool for major fuel fires. Officials are weighing a $200,000-plus upfront purchase of PFAS-free foam while awaiting a still-unavailable state reimbursement program, raising concerns about readiness in one of the nation’s most densely populated areas.
   

• 226 Hawthorne Students To Attend PCTI This Fall As District Faces $2.4M Tuition Bill (tapinto.net) — Hawthorne’s school district will pay more than $2.4 million in tuition this year to send 226 students to Passaic County Technical Institute, highlighting strain on local budgets across Passaic County. Board members say county funding for PCTI is too low and want the vocational-school funding formula changed, even as some students are now choosing to stay in Hawthorne High School.
