TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Point Pleasant man has pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse material, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Monday.

James R. Vavra, 75, had more than 1,000 images of children being sexually assaulted on his electronic devices when he was arrested Oct. 23, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Authorities had been alerted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a person was uploading images of child sexual abuse to the internet, and an investigation by the prosecutor's office traced the IP address to Vavra's home, the prosecutor's office said.

Vavra was arrested by Point Pleasant police and later released to await trial under New Jersey bail reform rules.

Vavra pled guilty on Friday before Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan; he is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 28, at which time the prosecutor's office will be seeking a term of 10 years in prison, authorities said.

Vavra would also be subject to parole supervision for life and be required to register as a Megan’s Law offender, the prosecutor's office said.
