POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Jenkinson's Boardwalk will have extra sparkle for its America 250 Celebration, with fireworks added to the day on July 16.
The fireworks are the result of Jenkinson's having to postpone its Independence Day Fireworks Show as extreme heat and severe storms battered the Jersey Shore over the July 4th weekend.
Originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, the fireworks show will now take place on Thursday, July 16, boardwalk officials said.
The boardwalk's America 250 Celebration is set to feature a DJ on the beach, concerts and entertainment, a special $17.76 wristband deal and the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the boardwalk's newest ride, Patriot's Run.
The family-oriented coaster reaches about 40 feet high to appeal to more adventurous riders, said Alex Taylor, marketing and brand manager for Jenkison's Boardwalk. The coaster does not have flips or other extreme actions like those found on big roller coasters at parks like Great Adventure.
There will be beach concerts and other entertainment, special three-hour ride wristbands for $17.76, and a "Red, White & Ride Celebration," Jenkinson's said.
All of that will be capped by the fireworks display at dark, wind and weather permitting. They are scheduled to begin about 9:30 p.m. Updates or cancellations will be posted on the Jenkinson's Boardwalk social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram.
"Bring your family and friends, grab your spot on the beach and celebrate summer at the shore with an unforgettable night of fireworks over the ocean," boardwalk officials said.
Jenkinson's Boardwalk is at 300 Ocean Ave., Point Pleasant Beach.
