UPDATE: Death Near NJ Transit Train Tracks In Point Beach

Man's body with head injuries found in coupling area; investigation ongoing.

A man’s body was discovered near a coupling area on the New Jersey Transit train tracks on Route 35 northbound and Trenton Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach early this morning, police said.

Point Beach police received a 911 call at 8:29 a.m. about a possible first aid call, Detective Clint Daniel said.

When police responded, they realized the man was dead, he said.

Daniel said New Jersey Transit police is the lead agency in the investigation. Members of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office are also on the scene.

Ocean County Prosecutor‘s Office spokesman Al Della Fave said the man was 62. He also referred further questions to NJ Transit.

NJ Transit spokesperson William J. Smith said in a statement that the ”trespasser” was found with head injuries near the railroad tracks near Trenton Avenue.

“At this time it has not been determined if the individual was struck by a NJ TRANSIT train or sustained his injuries in another manner,” according to the statement. ”The ongoing investigation is being led by the NJTPD.”

NJCL-Bay Head rail service was temporarily suspended at Bay Head, Point Pleasant and Manasquan stations in both directions, until a substitute bus service was established. Normal rail service was restored at 11:15 a.m

The Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, NJ Transit and medical examiners handled the case.

Police said it is not clear whether the man suffered head injuries after being struck by an oncoming train or another way, according to the report. The incident is under investigation by NJ Transit police.
