Driver Drunk In Route 35 Crash That Hurt Point Pleasant Pair: Police

The man was driving on a suspended license in addition to being intoxicated, authorities said.

WALL, NJ — The driver of a car who hit a Point Pleasant pair's car head-on on Route 35 in early October was intoxicated at the time of the crash, police said Friday.

Mitchell G. Holley, 34, of Downington, Pennsylvania, has been charged with aggravated assault by auto in the Oct. 7 crash in Wall Township, police said.

After receiving toxicology results from the New Jersey State Police forensic laboratory, Holley was charged with two counts of aggravated assault by auto, one count of causing seriously bodily injury while driving with a suspended driver’s license, driving while suspended, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving by Wall Patrolman Hunter Manning.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Holley, police said.

Police said the crash happened about 6:45 p.m. in the area of Route 35 and 18th Avenue in Wall.

Holley was driving south on Route 35 in a 2011 Nissan Altima when he crossed into the northbound lane and hit a 2023 Mazda CX3 head-on that was being driven by a 39-year-old Point Pleasant man, police said.

The man and a 31-year-old woman from Point Pleasant who was his passenger were injured, and they and Holley had to be extricated from their cars before they were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Holley initially was reported by police to have a Georgia address.
