Jenkinson's Buys Risden's, Owns Nearly All Point Beach Boardwalk

Jenkinson's purchased Risden's for $7.1 million, officials said. Here's what they get in Point Pleasant Beach.

Jenkinson’s Boardwalk now owns just about everything on the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk. The company hinted, however, that it plans no major changes – yet.

Jenkinson's officially closed on its $7.1 million purchase of Risden’s Beach and Bath House on Tuesday, Attorney Edward R. McGlynn told Patch.

McGlynn said the purchase includes the beach, the boardwalk and the parking lot where Risden's, which owned the boardwalk's southern portion for decades, operated.

McGlynn said it's too early to say what Jenkinson's might do on the former Risden's property, but there no immediate plans to change anything.

Jenkinson's owns virtually all of the beachfront facing the boardwalk area of Point Pleasant Beach. The company bought out Herman's in the late 1980s. The company operates a number of attractions on the boardwalk, incuding arcades and an aquarium.

Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Stephen Reid told Patch last week that the borough was interested in buying the Risden's property but the asking price was way too high, saying: "Would I love to have it? Sure."

"We can never compete against the private industry," Reid said. "It was like a no-go from the beginning."

Reid said the borough had struggled in its dealings with Risden's, but he said he's looking forward to Jenkinson's coming in. "They've always done everything first class," he said.
