Joseph A. Schweitzer, World War II Navy Veteran, Longtime Fireman, Dies At 88
Services for Point Pleasant resident will be held on Thursday and Friday.

Joseph A. Schweitzer of Point Pleasant died on Saturday in Ocean Medical Center with his family by his side. He was 88.
He was born and raised in Newark and moved to Point Pleasant 37 years ago.

He was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving his country in the US Navy. He was employed as a fireman for over 28 years with the Newark Fire Department; retiring as Captain in 1981. He was a parishioner of St. Martha's R.C. Church in Point Pleasant and a volunteer in Point Pleasant Hospital.
He enjoyed his lifelong hobby as a seasoned "Handicapper". He was also a member of the Ruffian Club (childhood buddies). He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marilyn (Zihala) Schweitzer in 1987 and by his adored sister Marie Healy. He is survived by his devoted companion, Asemina Kazameas; his loving children, Joseph A. Jr. "Sonny" of Brick, Jack A. of Belleville and Terri Samuel and her husband, Paul of Manasquan; two grandchildren, Michael and Paul; and two nieces and one nephew.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home - 2170 Highway 88, Brick. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, at St. Martha's R.C. Church in Point Pleasant. Entombment will follow at St. Catharine's Cemetery in Wall.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105 .
