Republicans Win Point Pleasant Council Seats: Unofficial Results

Incumbent Valerie Coulson and newcomer Joseph Veni held a 1,200-vote margin over their opponents, according to unofficial results.

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Point Pleasant Council incumbent Valerie Coulson and her Republican running mate appear to have won election to the borough council seats, according to unofficial results.

Veni was the top vote-getter according to the unofficial tallies published Tuesday by the Ocean County Clerk's office, with 15 of 16 districts reporting. Veni had 2,517 votes and Coulson had 2,482, well ahead of Democrats Michelle Viggos, 1,294 votes, and Wayne Martiak, with 1,267 votes, according to the unofficial tallies. Michael S. Permuko, who was running as an independent, received 174 votes.

The Borough Council seats are four-year terms.

The results of the election do not become official until they are certified by the Ocean County Clerk.

There were two, three-year terms available on the Board of Education. Cheryl Salway had received 2,236 votes, and there were 847 write-in votes cast.

Write-in vote totals will not be available until the Ocean County Clerk certifies the election.
