A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for four New Jersey counties on Tuesday. Hail and strong winds were possible.

The warning, which was in effect until 8:30 p.m., said a severe thunderstorm was located over Cranbury, 12 miles southwest of New Brunswick, moving southeast at 25 mph.

The storm involved 60-mph wind gusts. Damage to roofs, siding, trees and power lines is possible.

The four counties impacted were Monmouth, Middlesex, Mercer and Ocean counties. The warning could move to other areas of the state as the storm passes over New Jersey.

  • Tuesday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Wednesday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Wednesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
