POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — A 40-year-old man had to be pulled from the ocean in Point Pleasant Beach on Tuesday afternoon after getting caught in a rip current, Point Pleasant Beach police said Wednesday.

A swimmer in distress at New York Avenue was reported just before 4 p.m., police said, with callers saying the man was stuck in a rip current. Police saw him in the ocean with his head above water, drifting north and went into the water at Forman Avenue, where they were able to pull him to safety.

The Point Pleasant First Aid and Dive Team and the U.S. Coast Guard also responded, police said.
