Vitale Swearing-In As Mayor Set In Point Pleasant Beach

Douglas Vitale is set to be sworn in as mayor of Point Pleasant Beach on Monday to start the new year.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — Douglas Vitale will be sworn in as mayor of Point Pleasant Beach on Monday, Jan. 1, taking over for Paul Kanitra, who is moving to the state Assembly.

The reorganization meeting also will include the swearing in of Arthur Gant Sr. and Caryn Byrnes as council members.

The meeting is set for 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, in the council meeting room at borough hall, 416 New Jersey Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. The meeting agenda is online.

Vitale, a Republican who was unopposed in the general election for mayor, received 1,244 votes according to official election results from the Ocean County Clerk's office.

Gant, a Republican, received 943 votes and Byrnes, also a Republican, received 817 votes in the council election. Democrat Lawrence Schwartz received 731 votes, according to the Ocean County Clerk's office.

The Point Pleasant Beach Board of Education is scheduled to hold its reorganization meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, in the auditorium at G. Harold Antrim Elementary School.

The agenda for the meeting had not been published as of Friday.
