Up your Thanksgiving dinner game by picking a fresh turkey from a local farm. Here's a list to get you started:

NEW JERSEY — Cold weather is here, and with the Garden State waking up to falling temperatures, trips to pumpkin patches are almost over: but with Thanksgiving coming up at the end of the month, you can plan a visit to a Turkey farm to say hello to the birds.

It can be a fun activity for families, and if you want to up your Thanksgiving dinner game, you can even purchase a fresh turkey from a local farm.

Here are 10 turkey farms in New Jersey that you can visit:

Lee Turkey Farm, East Windsor: Not only can you pick up your holiday bird, but you can also plan a proper farm visit and pick up peppers, tomatoes eggplant, cabbage, and more. Currently, their corn maze 2021 is still open. Farm hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Spring Valley Turkey Farm, Old Bridge: A family-owned business, Spring Valley grows turkeys on pasture for the Thanksgiving season. According to their website, the farms “Broad Breasted White Turkeys are raised on open grass where they receive grain and freshwater.” The farm is open for reservations.

Ashley Farms, Flanders: Another family-owned business, that prides itself in raising organic turkeys. November hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the winter season, you can also find seasoned firewood, Christmas wreaths, soups, chili, and more.

Abma’s Farm, Wycoff: When visiting to pick your turkey, plan a visit to the barnyard petting zoo. Visit the goats, sheep, alpaca, donkeys, ponies, and more. Regular hours are 1 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays. The farm is closed on Sundays.

Griggstown Farm, Princeton: Not only can you choose your Thanksgiving turkey, the farm also provides you with recipes and cooking instructions. Started 40 years year, the farm also has the Griggstown Farm Market which sells seasonal fruit pies, chicken, beef, vegetarian pot pies, fresh seasonal soups, sauces, and more.

DiPaola Turkey Farm, Hamilton: Started by Art DiPaola, Sr. in 1948, this is a family-run business that prides itself on bringing fresh turkey to consumers from a USDA inspected facility.

Hincks Turkey Farm, Manasquan: If you plan a trip to this farm, prepare to spend a whole day of fun here Watch the goats play, enjoy a meal at their deli/restaurant, and then pick up your bird.

Flatbrook Fram, Sandyston: Located in rural Sussex County, this farm has acres of rolling hay meadows and woodlands that allow them to raise animals in a pasture-based, sustainable method.

Lima Family Farms, Hillsborough: This farm prides itself on health and sustainable produce. All turkeys are pasture-raised and are moved to fresh grass on a regular basis.

Vacchiano Farm, Readington: Located in Warren County, the farm has some of the best turkeys. All poultry is prepackaged in vacuum-sealed packing and flash frozen.
