$13M Bond Referendum Up For Princeton BOE Consideration On Tuesday

PRINCETON, NJ – The Princeton Public Schools Board of Education will be meeting on Tuesday, and on the agenda is a discussion on a $13 million bond referendum.

If the BOE agrees on the resolution, the referendum will be presented to the public during the Nov. 7 election this year.

During the July 25 meeting, Business Administrator Matt Boudin outlined the important aspects of the referendum, saying it would provide funds for essential improvements in the district.

The funds will focus on four areas – wellness and sustainability, which will make up 27 percent of funds or $3,526,900; the largest chunk, 31.5 percent, will go to Safety & Security $4,086,579; 23.2 percent or $3,019,900 will go towards major maintenance; and 18 percent or $2,364,671 has been earmarked for technology.

All six schools will get safety and security improvements with police walk-throughs. Boudin did not get into the details of the proposed upgrades.

More than $7 million of the bond money will go towards making improvements at the high school. This includes updates to the athletic field, kitchen and cafeteria renovation, tech and HVAC upgrades and Ecolab improvements.

Princeton Middle School will see upgrades to the playground and pool. Money will be spent for playground upgrades and fencing replacement at all elementary schools among other improvements.
