300-Unit Housing Development To Be Discussed In Princeton

The special meeting being held this upcoming Tuesday will allow the public to weigh in on the proposed Redevelopment Plan for Thanet Road.

PRINCETON, NJ — A special public meeting to continue discussions on the Thanet 300-unit housing development will be held by the Princeton Planning Board this upcoming Tuesday.

The special meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Meeting Room of Witherspoon Hall, 400 Witherspoon St. in Princeton where the public will be able to weigh in on the proposed Redevelopment Plan for 100-101 Thanet Road.

The proposed plan calls for a 221-unit multi-family development and an 80-unit senior housing to be built side-by-side on the former 15-acre Thanet site off Thanet Circle and Terhune Road in Princeton.

Avalon Bay Communities, the developer, agreed to work affordable housing units into the plan. Of the 221-units in the multi-family development there will be six affordable apartments and five affordable apartments for special needs adults.

There will also be a 100 percent senior affordable development with 80 units built on the same site.

These two developments are part of Princeton's plan to meet their affordable housing obligation ordered by Mercer County Judge Mary C. Jacobson in March 2018. Jacobson ruled that Princeton must build 753 new affordable housing units by 2025.

The special meeting is part of Princeton Planning Board's review of the proposed redevelopment plan for compliance with the Municipal Master Plan.
