$45K Stolen From Princeton Elderly Woman In Lottery Scam

Two unlocked vehicles parked in Princeton were also reportedly burglarized recently, according to the police blotter.

PRINCETON, NJ — Nearly $45,000 was stolen from an elderly Princeton woman in a lottery scam, police report.

On Oct. 23 at 3:22 p.m.: An elderly victim reported that she fell victim to a telephone scam that claimed she won the lottery amounting to $18 million in winnings.

The victim sent two personal bank checks to separate addresses in Calhoun, GA and Brooklyn, N.Y. In addition, a fraudulent withdrawal was made at an unknown Wells Fargo Bank. The total monetary loss sustained was $44,997.99, Princeton Police report.

On Oct. 20 at 1 a.m.: Subsequent to a motor vehicle stop for speeding, Aida Fortis, 25, of Manville arrested on an active warrant out of New Brunswick Municipal Court in the amount of$550. She was taken to Princeton Police Department headquarters where she was processed, issued several motor vehicle summonses with a pending court date and was turned over to New Brunswick police.

On Oct. 20 at 12:36 a.m.: Subsequent to a motor vehicle stop for an improper turn, Melanie A. Macko, 34, of Philadelphia, PA was found to be in possession of controlled dangerous substance(CDS) and CDS paraphernalia. Macko was arrested, searched, and transported to headquarters for processing, issued several complaint summonses and motor vehicle summonses with pending court dates and released.

On Oct. 20 at 10:07 a.m.: A victim reported that her vehicle was burglarized on Oct. 20 between 8:45 and 9:30 a.m. while it was parked, unsecured and unattended at an estate sale at 13 Linwood Circle. Someone removed a black men’s wallet containing $40 cash and various personal cards and documents.

On Oct. 23 at 3:28 p.m.: A victim reported that on Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. she left her vehicle unlocked while it was in her driveway. On Oct. 23, at 8 a.m. she went out to her vehicle and noticed the driver's side front door was left slightly ajar and there were several papers removed from the center console that were now placed on the passenger seat. The victim inventoried the vehicle and found nothing missing.
