It's time to make doughnuts — lots of them — and create plenty of jobs as a Dunkin' Donuts factory is slated to open in New Jersey.

By the end of next year, a Dunkin' Donuts franchisee plans to buy and redevelop The Trentonian newspaper's building into a baking facility that will make products for local stores in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, according to a release from the MIDJersey Chamber of Commerce.

Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson said the central baking facility for Dunkin' Donuts brands is expected to create 170 full-time jobs and bring much-needed investment to the capital city.

And the new factory is expected to better serve local demand. The New Jersey Economic Development Authority approved a 10-year, $18.9 million grant for the project that will be undertaken by franchisee Paresh Patel, according to the release.

The new facility will serve Dunkin' Donuts' existing and potential retail locations that could open in the area, offering a production capacity exceeding 100,000 dozen per week, according to nj.com.

“When Trenton attracts new business and jobs, our local economy and City gets stronger,” Jackson said in the release, adding that “strategic partnerships will achieve policy goals, particularly economic ones.”

The company wasn't prepared to announce where those potential new locations will be. Dunkin' Donuts, known for its hot coffee as well as its doughnuts and muffins, has more than 11,800 restaurants in 44 countries worldwide.
