Blog: Ron Ladell to Receive Humanitarian of the Year Award

AvalonBay's RonLadell, the developer for the Princeton Hospital, will receive the Humanitarian of the Year award on Friday from the Center for Great Expectations for work on Avalon Somerset.

The Center for Great Expectations will honor Ron Ladell as their Humanitarian of the Year at its annual Gift of Hope Gala.  This year’s event will be held on Friday, October 26 at 6:00 PM at Fiddler’s Elbow in Bedminster.

The Center for Great Expectations facilitates programs designed to break the desperate cycle of homelessness, trauma, abuse and addiction.   Their two residential-style homes in Somerset, NJ provide a total of 16 bedrooms for homeless, pregnant women and their children, ranging in age from newborn to the age of 5.  While in residence, mothers engage in their own intensive treatment programs while learning essential parenting and life skills.  The Center also has an onsite Child Development Center, Katy’s Place, for the infants and children of the residents they serve.  Knowing her child is well-cared for by the professionals of Katy’s Place allows each mother to focus on her own program, motivated to success by the presence of her child.  Through counseling, the Center’s residents learn how to break the cycle of poor choices and begin making the right choices for themselves and their children.  The results are life changing.

As Senior Vice President of Development for New Jersey, Mr. Ladell oversees AvalonBay’s development activities throughout New Jersey and focuses on developing premier residential and mixed-use communities in high barrier to entry markets.  Since joining AvalonBay in 2002, Ron has overseen the construction and acquisition of communities in Lawrenceville, Lyndhurst, Tinton Falls, West Long Branch, Wood-Ridge, North Bergen, Aberdeen, East Rutherford, Plainsboro and Watchung.  AvalonBay is currently constructing communities in Wood-Ridge, Hackensack, Bloomingdale and Somerset.

He also serves on Real Estate Forum’s Editorial Advisory Board.

Ron received his JD from Rutgers University School of Law-Newark and his BA from Rutgers College, Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He appears regularly as a panelist for real estate development and redevelopment, finance and legal topics at programs throughout the country and has been quoted extensively in national publications such as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and various state, regional and local publications.  Mr. Ladell is also an instructor for the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority, a guest lecturer at The Wharton School (MBA), University of Pennsylvania and was formerly a political commentator for a radio talk show and a cable television show.
