Joseph Kyrillos for US Senate

To the voters of Princeton, New Jersey:

My name is Arthur Christopher Schaper, a resident of Torrance, CA, a suburb of Los Angeles. I am writing to support the candidacy of Joseph Kyrillos for US Senate.

Joseph Kyrillos, the current state senator from Monmouth, is running for the US Senate against Robert Menendez, a "flabby" incumbent who commands little respect with his  fellow New Jerseyans  (Unpopular Menendez).

The Times of Trenton has reported that Kyrillos has more than a snowball’s chance of winning the senate seat, despite  the fact that it has been fifty years since a Republican was elected to the  office (Kyrillos Can Do It).

With Governor Christie’s tough take on  debts and spending, this may be the year that mid-Atlantic moderation goes from  Jersey Shore to the banks of the Potomac.Robert Menendez is an undistinguished junior senator, one whose polling numbers suggest that “someone  else” or “none of the above” would do better if he were the only named candidate on the November vote. During his abysmal tenure, Menendez has voted against extending middle class tax cuts. He has opposed extending the Keystone Pipeline, a measure which would help bring down the cost of gasoline, which throughout New Jersey currently ranges between $3.35 to $3.45 a gallon (High Gas Prices). XL Keystone would increase this country’s independence from foreign oil. Twice Menendez has voted against a Balanced Budget Amendment, all while voting 97% of the time with his party, which has exploded the national debt in a little over three years (Menendez in Tax and Spend Lock-Step). He has even voted against ending the earmark practice eating away at our country’s dwindling budget.

Menendez is part and parcel of the same liberal cabal which brought ObamaCare upon this country, another massive entitlement that robs Medicare to the tune of $700  billion.  Because of the law’s overwhelming rules and regulations, hospitals are closing all over the country (California; Pennsylvania; NJ Real Times -- Nearly Every Hospital Hurt; ). The law fails to
take into account the cost of caring for illegal immigrants, who are still entitled to
health care, but who will neither be able to purchase insurance, nor will they
be taxed for not purchasing insurance (Illegal Immigrant Loophole).
Even worse, the IRS has determined that the law fails to cover workers and their families adequately, another unforeseen loophole in the legislation which excludes working families from family coverage (American Worker Loophole).

Facing an unemployment rate of 9.8%, New Jerseyans do not need any more financial burdens when it comes to looking for work or maintaining their healthcare. Menendez has done nothing to help working New Jerseyans to get back on their feet. This year, the state of New Jersey can send another rollicking message to Washington and the country. Accountability and fiscal responsibility are desperately needed in our federal government, and Kyrillos can carry it into D.C.

In his twenty four years in the New Jersey statehouse, Kyrillos supported the two percent cap on property tax increases. (Joe on Tax Cuts) While serving his constituents of the 13^th Senate district, Kyrillos sponsored legislation that would cut taxes on job creators, offer tax credits for manufacturing, and promote sales and use tax rebates (Joe Votes for Tax Cuts).  Regarding education, Kyrillos has partnered with Governor Christie to empower parents and hold schools accountable for they spend tax dollars and how they educate New Jersey’s kids. In spite of Mendacious Menendez’ claim that Kyrillos raided a pension fund to help balance the state budget one year (Mendacious Menendez), Kyrillos is leading the charge on reforming Trenton pension obligations (More on Pension Reform).

 Kyrillos has signaled to New Jersey voters that he is willing to bring compromise as well as character to Washington, just like the New Jersey governor who has forged tax-cutting proposals with a heavily Democratic legislature. Kyrillos supports the Simpson-Bowles plan, which blends spending cuts and revenue increases by eliminating loopholes for large corporations (Kyrillos for
Real Compromise). Even The Star-Ledger editorial page has applauded Kyrillos’ integrity to pursue problem-solving instead of rabid partisanship (Kyrillos in the Star-Ledger).


Among the numerous endorsements which State Senator Joseph Kyrillos has received, including the US Chamber of Commerce, The National Federation of Independent Business, Hunderton County Leaders, Governor Chris Christie,
who endorsed Kyrillos before he won the GOP nomination, has heralded Kyrillos’
wisdom, research, and skill to find a way to work with the other side on key
issues including tax reduction and job creation.

The Wall Street Journal has also touted the key element that makes Christie and Kyrillos successful candidates and political contenders:

“For his part, Mr. Christie said he is supporting Mr. Kyrillos because of his bipartisan work in Trenton.” (WSJ, August 20, 2012) 

Kyrillos has the character, the charisma, and the New Jersey community utmost in mind. Despite the trends of history and constituency which have up until recently favored liberal candidates, I hope that 2012 is the year that the Garden State sends a tried-and-true conservative to Washington to institute lower taxes, less spending, and more local control for New Jersey and the country.
