The passage of S-1534 last week to exempt private colleges and universities from local zoning requirements was a major disappointment to everyone I have spoken with in the Princeton Community.
The essence of our democratic republic is that all citizens and institutions should be treated equally. The ideas of fairness and equal opportunity are crucial to our values as Princetonians, and Americans. Why should private colleges and universities get a free pass while other institutions have to comply with local rules and regulations?

I urge everyone in the newly consolidated Princeton to contact their elected Assembly representatives in the 16th Legislative District and tell them in the strongest terms possible to vote against the bill before it sneaks through the Assembly.
