Burglar Leads Police On Foot Chase In Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A burglar led officers of the Hamilton Police Division on a foot chase before being captured, authorities said.

On Wednesday, Feb. 2 police were dispatched to a burglary in progress call in the area of Harrison Avenue and Lafayette Avenue. The caller described the suspects as two males, one in light clothing and the other in dark clothing, wearing masks and carrying backpacks.

Officers came across Harold D. Claytor Jr. in the area of the burglar, and while they were speaking with him, he fled the scene, leading the police on a brief foot chase, authorities said. Claytor Jr. was finally apprehended and charged with burglary, theft, and resisting arrest.

The second suspect was able to flee the area, police said. Both backpacks were recovered which had several stolen items, police said.
