Construction, Parking & Traffic Update In Princeton This Week

Here's what to expect as you hit the road in Princeton this week:

PRINCETON, NJ — Concrete barriers have been installed on Witherspoon Street between Nassau Street and Spring Street due to ongoing construction. Concrete roadway base work will be done Sept. 27 - 29. Concrete will be poured in stages throughout the day with temporary closures. Detours will be in place. There will be no concrete pours after 3 p.m., the Engineering Department said.

Sanitary sewer main replacement will take place overnight at the Paul Robeson Place/Wiggins Street and Witherspoon Street intersection. Work hours 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sept. 26 - 29. Traffic officers will be on-site and detours will be in place.

Earle Asphalt Co. will continue demolition and construction on the west side and installation of stormwater utilities. Work is scheduled to continue through the end of September. There will be a 4-5 foot walking path nearest the frontage of the businesses for pedestrians.

Traffic and Parking

  • Witherspoon Street will remain open to traffic traveling northbound. During the concrete base placement, Witherspoon Street will be closed between Nassau Street and Spring Street at times each day from Sept. 27-29 to accommodate the concrete truck in the travel lane. Parking is not available between Nassau Street and Spring Street during construction.
  • During the sanitary sewer main installation, Sept. 26 - 29, traffic will not be allowed to cross Witherspoon Street from Paul Robeson Place/ Wiggins Street from the east or west directions. Two-way traffic will be allowed on Witherspoon Street from the north and south directions..
  • A new temporary loading zone was installed on Witherspoon Street between Hulfish Street and Paul Robeson Place / Wiggins Street, along the curb at Hinds Plaza and the public library. All Business delivery trucks shall utilize designated loading zones and crosswalks. Stopping in the travel lane to load or unload is prohibited. Other available loading zones are on Nassau Street, Spring Street, and Hulfish Street.
