Criminal Mischief, Theft By Extortion: Princeton Police Blotter

An unknown person posing as a member of the Mexican cartel contacted a woman saying he had her daughter in custody, police said.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton Police blotter dated Jan. 16, contained the following reports:

On Jan. 8 at 4:45 p.m., a caller from Princeton-Kingston Road reported that her neighbor's house and vehicle were vandalized with graffiti while they were away. Investigation revealed that the front door was spray painted with numbers and there were indecipherable symbols spray painted on the hood of the car in the driveway. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

On Jan.10, 10:15 a.m. A resident of Billie Ellis Lane reported that an unknown person used a sharp object to puncture the sides of the two rear tires of his vehicle, which was parked outside his home. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

On Jan. 12 at 08:53 a.m., an Oakland Street resident told police that an unknown person contacted her via phone posing as a member of the Mexican cartel. The cartel member told the woman that he had her daughter in custody and demanded a monetary payment. The victim subsequently wired the person a total of $2500 before she was able to contact her daughter who was home safe at the time of the call. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

On Jan. 14 at 08:35 p.m., police said between 6 a.m. on Jan. 9 and 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 14, an unknown person forced entry to a residence on Mercer Street by shattering a rear basement window. Once inside the residence, the suspect forced entry through two interior doors and stole various things belonging to the owner. The Detective Bureau is investigating.
