Fatal Jersey Shore Boat Crash Under Investigation, Reports Say

TOMS RIVER, NJ — One person has died and multiple people were injured after a boat hit a channel marker in Barnegat Bay late Saturday, according to reports.

The Lakewood Scoop reported the crash shortly after 11 p.m. and, quoting unnamed sources, said one person was killed and two others were critically injured.

The report said there were multiple teenagers on the boat.

NJ 101.5 reported there were five people on the boat and that it hit the marker while traveling at high speed, quoting unnamed law enforcement sources.

New Jersey State Police, who are the lead law enforcement agency in the investigation, have not commented publicly and have not responded to a Patch request for information as of Sunday afternoon.

The crash comes six days after two Ocean County children died when the boat they were passengers on hit a channel marker near Berkeley Township.

Mya and Sigmund Golabek, ages 9 and 7,died after they were thrown overboard when the boat hit an Intracoastal Waterway marker, state police said.
