Duplex Fire Leaves Two Families Homeless In Mercer County: Police

No injuries to residents, firefighters, or pets were reported. The American Red Cross helped the displaced residents find shelter.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Two families were left homeless after a fire destroyed a residential duplex in West Windsor, police said.

On Saturday, Jan. 15, at 5:01 p.m., police were called to a residential duplex on Millstone Road that was on fire. On arrival, police were told that all residents of the duplex were safely evacuated. No injuries to residents, firefighters or pets were reported.

Several neighboring fire departments including East Windsor Fire Company Station 42, Lawrence Fire Company Station 23, Princeton Fire Company Station 60, and Plainsboro Fire Company Station 49, assisted the West Windsor fire department.

PSEG also responded to the scene to cut power/gas to the structure, police said. The West Windsor Construction Official deemed both units uninhabitable. The American Red Cross helped the displaced residents find shelter.

Millstone Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours as a result of this incident.

According to initial determination, the fire was not suspicious.

The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the WWPD Detective Bureau and the WW Division of Emergency Services.
