Eagle Scout Helps The Titusville Academy
Local teen donates time and talent to help private school serving students with learning needs
Hopewell Township, NJ - Ian Green, an 18-year-old senior at Hopewell Valley Central High School, recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in Boy Scouts. Fewer than 4% of all scouts earn the Eagle Scout rank, which requires a scout to first obtain more than 21 merit badges, demonstrate leadership, and complete a self-directed service project.
Green, a lifelong Hopewell Township resident, chose to help The Titusville Academy for his service project. The Titusville Academy is a private, not-for-profit school serving students with learning and behavioral difficulties. The school, which has operated since 1971, is located on River Road in Titusville in an historic school building overlooking the Delaware River.
“The hand rails and deck across from the school leading down to the river needed repairs, so I designed my service project to replace hand rails and do general maintenance on the deck,” said Green, adding that more than a week of time and energy went into the project.

“I really enjoy being able to make a difference for the students of Titusville and give them the opportunity to go safely to the river bed,” said Green. “I hope this will have a lasting impact on The Titusville Academy and its students—maybe they can use the river as part of an outdoor classroom.”
“We were honored that Ian chose to commit his Eagle Scout project to The Titusville Academy,” said Deborah R. Zerbib, Executive Director of the school. “The Hopewell Valley community has been a wonderful supporter of the work we do here, and now Ian is part of that tradition.”

Green, who has been scouting since 2008, is a member of Troop 41, which is part of the Washington Crossing Council covering Hopewell, NJ and Bucks County, PA.
Service and giving back are not new for Green, who serves as a member of the Pennington Volunteer Fire Department. “The Boy Scout slogan is ‘Do a good turn daily.’ I have always been like that. Now that I am an Eagle Scout, it is amplified,” Green concluded.
