Escaped Convict From New Jersey Captured In Maryland: Police
Police arrested David Riley in Baltimore over the weekend. His father, David Carty, is charged with trying to help him flee to Georgia.
An inmate who escaped custody while being transported from Mercer County to Cumberland County was arrested in Maryland over the weekend, according to New Jersey State Police.
David Riley, 34, of Bridgeton, was arrested in Baltimore, MD, on Saturday, Aug. 11, police said. He was captured by U.S. Marshals at a bus terminal in the city.
Investigators from the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit, Troop “A” Criminal Investigation Office, U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Task Force, U.S. Marshals Capitol Area Regional Task Force, and Maryland State Police determined that Riley had fled to Maryland after he escaped custody in New Jersey on Friday, Aug. 10.

Riley was lodged in the Baltimore City detention center where he awaits extradition to New Jersey.
His father, 58-year-old David Carty of Bridgeton, drove him to Baltimore and bought him a bus ticket to Atlanta, Ga., police said. Carty was arrested at a motel in Vineland by New Jersey State Police.

He was charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction of justice, and aiding another in an escape. He was lodged in Cumberland County Jail where he awaits a bail detention hearing.
