Gabriel Crouch, Director

"A Holiday Celebration of Latin American Music." This performance "brings together the folkloric and classical traditions which have shaped choral music in South America since the early 17th Century. Included in the program is Hanacpachap Cussicuinin – set in the Quechua language and believed to be the first piece of polyphonic choral music composed in the New World. You’ll also hear the seasonal music of the early Spanish colonials, Juan de Padilla and Juan de Araujo, who fused the European style of their upbringing with the infectious rhythms of their new homeland. And the centerpiece of the program is the spectacular Misa Criolla, which takes the listener on an adventure through the dance rhythms of the Andes in about 25 breathless minutes.
