Free Gun Locks Available From Mercer County Sheriff's Office
The announcement came after a study by Rutgers University that cites 85 percent of parents do not practice safe gun storage at home.

Free cable gun locks are available to any Mercer County residents to secure their guns, Sheriff Jack Kemler announced. The announcement came in response to a study by the Rutgers University School of Nursing that cites 85 percent of parents do not practice safe gun storage in their homes.
“Under New Jersey law, a firearm must be secured if there is a minor in the home,” Kemler said. “The safe and reliable storage of a firearm is essential to preventing tragic accidents.”
The cable-styled gun locks are available through a nation-wide grant from Project ChildSafe. The lock meets the American Society for Testing and Materials current strength and safety standards for gun locks.
