MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Do you need to dispose of unwanted, unnecessary, or expired medication? Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler is participating in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 27.
The goal is to help residents rid their medicine cabinets of outdated and easily abused opioid painkillers and other unneeded prescription medications.
Residents can quickly drop off any unused and expired prescription pills, with no questions asked, by bringing them to the parking lot across from the Mercer County Administration Building at 640 South Broad Street in Trenton between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is both a nationwide and regional effort aimed at providing a safe, convenient, and responsible method for disposing of dangerous, unneeded, and outdated prescription pills from your household.
"Removing unused and expired medications from your home can help prevent accidental use, addiction, and abuse," said Kemler.

Proper disposal of old medications also reduces environmental risks, as medicines flushed down the drains could eventually enter local drinking water supplies.
"The best and most environmentally safe way to dispose of your old prescriptions is through area drug take-back programs," said Sheriff Kemler. "So, gather up your old prescriptions and make our local communities safer and healthier."
This disposal event will collect vape pens and other e-cigarette devices only after the batteries have been removed. The drug disposal event cannot accept syringes, sharp instruments, liquid medications, or solutions.
The Mercer County Sheriff's Office, along with other law enforcement agencies in the region, conducts this program with the assistance of the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.
