High School Student From Princeton Named Governor’s STEM Scholar

PRINCETON, NJ – Princeton High School student, Sumuk Anand was recently named to the Class of 2023’s Governor’s STEM Scholars.

The program provides high-achieve students an introduction to the New Jersey’s STEM economy with an aim to retain talent in the state.

A senior at PHS, Anand ranked highly in geography and history competitions like National Geography Bee, US Geography Olympiad, International Geography Bee and National History Bowl, the school district said.

For the past few years, Anand has been conducting research to find sustainable solutions for the biodegradation of plant-based plastic alternatives.

At school, Anand is an officer for the UNICEF club and a member of the History Bowl team, the school district said. He is a two-time national semifinalist for North South Foundation’s Panacea Challenge, focusing on diversity and inclusion.

He has also volunteered to teach elementary school students STEM, geography, Taekwondo, and chess.

Anand wants to pursue a career in Environmental Science, Biotechnology and Computer Science.
