Maryland Man Faces Murder Charges After Alleged Mercer County Stabbing Victim Dies

A charge of attempted murder for Yoon Choi was upgraded after a woman he's accused of stabbing in a Hamilton Subway restaurant died.

A Maryland man now faces murder charges after a woman authorities say he stabbed at a Hamilton Township Subway restaurant in 2014 died. Yoon Choi, 50, of Silver Spring, Maryland, has been indicted on one count of first-degree murder, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said on Monday. A Mercer County grand jury returned the three-count indictment last week.

Choi is accused of stabbing his then-girlfriend, Myung Jeon, multiple times in the neck on Dec. 9, 2014. He was indicted for first-degree attempted murder in April of 2015.

Jeon suffered extensive blood loss, nerve damage, and was forced to undergo multiple surgeries to repair her esophagus.

However, she ultimately died as a result of her injuries while hospitalized in Delaware County, Pennsylvania on July 7, 2016, resulting in the upgraded charge of murder.

Choi remains in the Mercer County Correction Center in lieu of $750,000 bail.
