Mayor Liz Lempert Supports Increased Minimum Wage in Princeton

The idea came from a conversation between the mayor and the council president about the ability to live on the state wage in Mercer County.

Princeton Mayor Liz Lempert said this week that she favors a higher minimum wage for municipal workers and requiring municipal contractors to do the same with their employees, the Princeton Packet reports.

She said she would favor a wage higher than the state minimum $8.38 an hour, according to the report. The federal minimum wage is $7.25.

The idea resulted from a conversation between Lempert and Princeton Council President Bernard Miller about the difficulty of living on the state’s minimum wage in Mercer County., according to the report.
