Mercer County Reminds Residents About Proper Storage Ahead of Summer

Brian M. Hughes issued a reminder about proper storage of pool chemicals.

Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes is urging everyone who uses and stores pool chemicals to take proper safety precautions ahead of the beginning of summer.

“These are hazardous materials that must be handled with great care,” Hughes said. “Anyone operating or maintaining a pool should be trained in pool chemical safety to protect themselves and swimmers from possible injury.”

Hughes said people can visit the Division of Public Health page on the Mercer County website for information provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the proper use and storage of pool chemicals: http://nj.gov/counties/mercer/departments/hs/public/index.html.

Pool chemicals and other hazardous materials must be disposed of properly, and Hughes reminds Mercer County residents that the Mercer County Improvement Authority sponsors several Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Electronics Recycling events each year.

The next one is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the John T. Dempster Fire School, 350 Lawrence Station Road, Lawrence.
