NJ Corrections Officer Shoots Woman After He Thought Sound Was Gunfire: Police
An NJ Corrections Officer thought he was being shot at after a paint can was thrown at his back car window, according to authorities.
TRENTON, NJ — A NJ Corrections Officer shot and injured a woman after he thought he was being shot at when his car window was shattered on March 18, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the Trenton Police Department Shooting Response Team who are investigating.
On Monday, March 18 at around 12:19 a.m. on the 500 block of Bellevue Avenue a resident of Bellevue Avenue was sitting in his parked vehicle with a passenger when he saw an unknown person exit a dark-colored SUV and approach his vehicle
They heard a loud bang and the rear window shattered. The resident, who was an off-duty corrections officer, got out of his vehicle with his gun and fired at the person he believed was shooting at him, said authorities.

He then saw that person run to the dark-colored SUV.
A 21-year-old Lawrence Township resident was hit by gunfire and driven to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in the dark SUV, where she was initially listed in critical but stable condition, said authorities.

Police located a paint can lodged in the shattered rear window of the resident’s vehicle.
No charges have been filed and the incident is still under investigation.
