Man Arrested Following Standoff In Bordentown: Police

Route 206 was closed during a standoff involving police and FBI along the border of Burlington and Mercer counties on Friday.

A 54-year-old man was taken into custody shortly before 5 p.m., ending a standoff that lasted several hours in Bordentown Township Friday afternoon, police said. The man has not been identified by police. No one was injured in the incident, according to the Bordentown Township Police Department.

Part of Route 206 had been closed for heavy police activity in the town, which is along the border between Burlington and Mercer counties. It was closed north of Route 662/East Park Street.

The standoff began after Bordentown Township police received a 911 call at about 12:36 p.m. from a 33-year-old woman who said the man had armed himself with several guns and was threatening to kill himself.

Police who arrived at the scene set up a perimeter, but were unable to make contact with the man. They were able to establish contact with the woman, who told them she feared for her own personal safety. She was hiding in an upstairs bedroom at the time, police said.

Bordentown police then requested assistance from New Jersey State Police, and the FBI, who responded to the scene. Together, all three law enforcement agencies were able to negotiate the woman's release.

Police continued to try to negotiate with the man, but when they were unsuccessful, they went into the home and took the man into custody just before 5 p.m.
