📰 News we're reading

1. Forgery, Theft, Theft By Deception: Princeton Police Blotter (patch.com) — Princeton residents are being alerted to several recent police investigations, including the use of counterfeit $100 bills at a Nassau Street business and two high-value bicycle thefts on Herrontown and Terhune roads. Police say the incidents occurred between late September and early October, and all investigations remain ongoing, underscoring the need for local vigilance.

2. What is Orange & Black Day and how do I celebrate it? (princeton.edu) — Orange & Black Day has quickly become a signature way for Princeton students, alumni, and local residents to celebrate the University's October 22 "birthday," both on campus and around town. This year's festivities, including selfie stations, birthday cake in dining halls, and local gatherings, also cap eight months of events marking the Alumni Association's 200th anniversary.

3. How Printmaking Changed the Way Jean-Michel Basquiat Painted (artnews.com) — A major new exhibition at the Princeton University Art Museum dives into how Jean-Michel Basquiat used printmaking techniques to shape his famous "Blue Ribbon" paintings, with silkscreens, Xerox works, and source books all on display. For Princeton-area art lovers, it's a rare chance to see these 11 canvases reunited and to peek into Basquiat's working process and influences up close.

4. Tiny tungsten contamination can 2x pressure needed for fusion ignition (interestingengineering.com) — Scientists at Princeton's Plasma Physics Laboratory have found that even tiny amounts of tungsten contamination in fusion reactors could double the pressure needed to reach ignition, potentially complicating future designs. Their updated model of the Lawson criterion also suggests a more efficient strategy for heating and densifying plasma, keeping Princeton at the center of global fusion research.
