Car Burglaries Lead To Increased Police Patrols In Princeton

Police remind residents to report all suspicious activity to the police department.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton police are increasing patrols parts of town where there has been a rash of car burglaries, the police department announced on Wednesday. An unknown person has been breaking into unlocked cars in the east section of town on PK Road and in the north and northwest areas of Lawrenceville Road and Ridgeview Road, according to police.

“Many people believe leaving your car unlocked prevents the thief from breaking the windows. False,” police said in a Facebook post. “Most, if not all of these types of crimes are crimes of opportunity. Thieves don't want to break car windows in driveways or on streets. That's noisy, and noise makes people call the cops.”

Police added that opening an unlocked car by reaching through a window is quiet and easy.
