Police Investigate Attempted Theft From Church Donation Boxes

Princeton police also arrested a 78-year-old man for driving while intoxicated as reported in its most recent police report.

PRINCETON, NJ — Police are investigating an incident in which an unknown person attempted to steal money from the donation box at St. Paul’s Church on Nassau Street.

The person entered the church through an unknown entrance at about 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, and pried open several donation boxes in an attempt to steal money, according to the Princeton Police Department. Police are unsure how much money, if any, was actually stolen.

The incident was reported as part of the Princeton Police Department’s activity report posted online. All incidents are merely accusations, and those accused are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The double doors on the old icehouse at Marquand Park were vandalized sometime between noon on April 7 and 11 a.m. on April 8. Someone attempted to break in by throwing bricks at the doors, and when that didn’t work, they etched the word “Death” into the wood. Damage is estimated at $200.

Grant Beske, 78, of Princeton, was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) after police learned he was injured in an unreported motor vehicle crash, rather than a fall. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment and later released to a sober adult.

Rebecca Johnson, 29, of Princeton, was arrested on two active warrants totaling $558 out of Princeton Municipal Court following a traffic stop for driving on a suspended license and unregistered vehicle. The stop on Washington Road at about 1:57 p.m. on April 7 was initiated after a random license plate inquiry. She was taken to police headquarters, where she was processed, issued several summonses with pending court dates and released upon posting her bail.
