Police Investigate iTunes Gift Card Scam In Princeton

Princeton police release their activity report.

PRINCETON, NJ — A Princeton resident was recently the victim of a $200 iTunes gift card scam, police said in this week’s activity report. The unnamed victim told police she was tricked into sending the gift card to an unknown person who hacked her friend’s email address.

The hacker then posed as her friend and requested the victim make the purchase for “her niece.” The victim said she became suspicious after the person requested additional purchases. She called her friend and learned of the hacking.

This was one of a number of incidents reported by the Princeton Police Department as part of their weekly report. All incidents are merely accusations, and those accused are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. The other reported incidents are as follows:

An unknown person broke into an apartment at Victoria Mews through a window that was reported unsecured on June 3. No property has been reported stolen, and no description of the burglar was available.

A white 2015 BMW X5 was stolen from the driveway of a home on Grover Avenue sometime between 9 p.m. on June 2 and 11 a.m. on June 3. The victim wasn’t sure if her car was locked at the time. The car was tracked to Newark, but was gone when the area was checked by Newark police.

A man reported that he was punched in the face by an unknown person while working at La Mezzaluna on May 12.

A 15-inch Dell Latitude E 7450 laptop worth $1,000 was stolen from outside of Meeting Room L2 at The Nassau Inn on April 13 between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.

An unlocked Trek bicycle worth $200 was stolen from the car port of a home on Westerly Road between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on May 31.

Teneshia Laird, 49, of Princeton, was arrested on an active warrant for $145 out of Princeton Municipal Court following a traffic stop on University Place on May 17. She was taken to police headquarters, where she was processed, and released with a pending court date after posting her bail.

Corey Miller, 49, of Trenton, was arrested as a wanted person on an NCIC warrant issued by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office following a traffic stop for an overweight vehicle violation on Mercer Street on June 4. He was taken to police headquarters, where he was processed and released to Officers Mendez and Wiley of the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.

Ricky Bailey, 39, of Princeton, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) after a caller reported a possible impaired driver on University Place on June 2. He was taken to police headquarters, where he was processed, issued multiple motor vehicles summonses with a pending court date and released to a sober adult.
