Police, Princeton Bars, Uber Partner To Provide Patrons Safe Ride Home
Under a new program, residents will be able to get a free ride home after visiting local bars and restaurants, police said.
PRINCETON, NJ — If you plan to visit a local bar but can’t find someone to drive you back home, worry not. Soon you’ll be able to ask Princeton Police to provide you with a designated driver.
The police department and the Princeton PBA Local 130 are partnering up with Uber and local restaurants and bars to start a new program to provide patrons with a safe ride home, Police representative said during Monday’s Council meeting.
The new program, “Let Princeton PD Provide Your DD,” will allow Princetonians to get a free Uber ride home after a night out in town.

The funds from the program will come from the Police union, Lt. Tom Lagomarsino said.
“Princeton police department union has pledged an amount of money for people that wish to get a free Uber ride from restaurants and bars in town to their local residences within Princeton, not only hoping to promote having a designated driver and getting home safely, but also to help promote the local bars and restaurants here in town,” Lagomarsino said.

The idea for the ride program was first shared with the Council by Traffic Safety Officer Mike Strobel, Councilwoman Eve Niedergang said.
“It’s such an amazing addition to the town,” Niedergang said. “Extend our thanks to your fellow officers.”
A date for the start of the program is yet to be announced.
