Princeton Academy Wrestling Team Finishes Season Strong

Despite the challenges it faced, the Princeton Academy Wrestling Team ended the season strong with a 2-2 record and much success at the Greater Mercer County Wrestling Tournament.

It was a rough winter for the Hawks as the team came across many cancellations, conflicts and illnesses that only allowed them to squeeze in four meets. However, the team was still able to break even by nabbing two wins against Rutgers Prep to offset the two losses against Pingry.

But the boys’ real victory came when they held their own against 12 public schools at the annual Greater Mercer County Middle School Wrestling Tournament in February. There, they finished with three gold medals in the Junior Varsity division and attained its first wins at the Varsity level since 2010.
Head Coach Erich Trautwein said it was the most success the Hawks have seen in five years.

"They were wrestling the best public school teams in the county and we were able to get some wins, which was impressive," he added.

When asked what made the Princeton Academy wrestling team a force to be reckoned with, Trautwein thought for a moment.

"We will never just roll over and let someone finish us off — we battle until we can't possibly move anymore," he said.
