Princeton Considering Fee on Shopping Bags
Environmental groups have been pushing the town to become the first in the state to implement such a charge.

Princeton officials are still awaiting a decision on whether they have the legal standing to institute a fee on paper and plastic shopping bags, the Princeton Packet reports.
Environmental groups have been pushing the town to become the first in the state to implement such a charge, according to the report.
Mayor Liz Lempert said she wants to make sure the town had a strong legal foundation if the charge were to be challenged in court. Council President Bernard Miller has suggested the county should take the lead, according to the report. Miller’s concerned shoppers may go elsewhere if Princeton is the only town with such a charge.
