Cop Injured After Suspects Flee Burglary Scene, Crash Into Patrol Car, Princeton Police Say

The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives are asking neighbors to check their security cameras.

PRINCETON, NJ — A Princeton police officer was hospitalized and several burglary suspects remained at large Friday after a chase ended in a head-on collision with a patrol vehicle, authorities said.

Around 7:54 p.m. Friday, police responded to a 911 call from a Coniston Court resident who reported hearing unknown people inside her home, Princeton Police said.

When officers arrived at the scene the found several suspects leaving the home. They entered a vehicle and drove away.

A short time later, the vehicle crashed head-on with a Princeton police patrol car that was responding to the area on Great Road. After the crash, the suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot, police said.

The officer in the patrol vehicle was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No residents inside the home were injured, police said.

Officers searched the area with help from a Hamilton Township Police Department K-9 unit and a drone from the West Windsor Police Department. But the suspects were not found.

The incident remains under active investigation, police said.
