Princeton Dinky Service To Resume May 12

Commuters in Princeton can rejoice as NJ Transit announced Wednesday the Dinky Rail service line will resume on Sunday, May 12.

PRINCETON, NJ — Commuters in Princeton can rejoice as the Dinky Rail service line will resume on Sunday, May 12, NJ Transit and Governor Phil Murphy announced Wednesday.

The service had been shutdown since October 2018. The restoration is just in time for the Memorial Day holiday and about two weeks ahead of NJ Transit's target date.

"This is very welcome news, especially for commuters, and will be a fantastic Mothers Day present for all of Princeton!" Princeton Mayor Liz Lempert said.

Along with the Dinky line, the Atlantic City Rail Line (ACRL) will also resume on May 12.

"Our economy relies upon our residents getting where they need to go reliably and safely, and Governor Christie’s nearly decade-long mismanagement of NJ TRANSIT undermined the capacity of NJ TRANSIT to fulfill that responsibility," said Murphy. "That is why I’m so pleased to announce the early restoration of the NJ TRANSIT Atlantic City Rail Line and the Princeton Branch Dinky Line, which will allow our commuters to get to work, school, and back again, free of disruption. I applaud NJ TRANSIT’s leadership for their efforts to improve safety and restore service. Our residents and commuters deserve nothing less."

The Dinky was initially shutdown in October 2018 to allow NJ Transit to install the Positive Train Control (PTC) equipment on their rail fleet. As a result the rail service was replaced by buses on weekdays and weekends that had been estimated to last through mid-January.

On May 12, Princeton Branch (Dinky) service will resume with a schedule similar to its previous operation prior to the temporary suspension, NJ Transit said.
