Princeton To Discuss CARES Act Funding In Next Public Meeting

Funds from the program will be utilized to provide housing and expand economic opportunities for low and moderate income families.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton will be holding a virtual public hearing on Sep. 29 to discuss the Community Development Block Grant Program.

The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently announced that Princeton will receive $242,985 for 2020, and an additional $333,924 from the CARES Act to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The town said it was informed only recently of its eligibility to become a Community Development Block Grant Program Entitlement Community.

Funds from the program will be utilized to provide housing and expand economic opportunities primarily for low and moderate income individuals. The town is holding a series of public hearings to discuss use of the funding.

The municipality drafted a plan describing the specific activities, programs, and projects being considered for funding using resources made available from the HUD.

Princeton will hold a public hearing to receive feedback from residents and stakeholders on this draft plan on Sep. 29, at 3 p.m. The meeting will be held virtually. The council will then meet on Sep. 30 to consider the plan and any comments received during the public hearing. They will adopt a resolution and authorize its submission to the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development on or before October 2.
