Princeton Extends Agreement With Rider U. For Public Parking

Under the new agreement, Princeton will pay Rider University $1,000 per month instead of $2000 to use the Westminster Choir College campus.

PRINCETON, NJ – To ease Princeton’s parking woes, the Council recently extended its agreement with Rider University to use the Westminster Choir College campus for public parking.

The new resolution reduces the number of parking spots for businesses from 193 to 107. The Municipality will now pay Rider $1,000 per month instead of $2,000.

This is the second extension to the agreement with the latest reductions in parking spots and fees.

“This will allow our program for business permits to continue for the parking area,” Municipal Engineer and Deputy Administrator Deanna Stockton said.

Stockton also said that the agreement will continue to include a provision to allow Princeton High School Students to utilize the parking lot. “Because we had the Franklin lot available that was used at the time rather than moving the students over to the Westminster lot,” Stockton said.

With the upcoming development of the Franklin lot, the municipality needed a new location for students to park.

Councilwoman Eve Niedergang said she was “fundamentally opposed” to providing parking to high school students. And for that reason, she would be voting ‘no’ on the resolution.

Princeton entered into a Temporary Revocable Parking Space License Agreement with Rider University on Dec. 1, 2021 On August 2022 the agreement was extended for the first time for the period of one year.

The new agreement is for a one-year term beginning Sept. 1, and ending on Aug. 31, 2024.

The resolution was adopted by a 5-1 vote.
